Thank you!
The 45th edition of the Cedars Golf Classic, which was jointly organized by the Cedars Cancer Foundation and the Montreal General Hospital Foundation, was held on Monday, June 17, at the extraordinary Royal Montreal Golf Club. Over 256 golfers took part this year.
Thanks to everyone who was part of the event, whether as a player, sponsor, donor, or volunteer, the tournament raised over $601,500 to support excellence and innovation in surgical oncology at the MUHC.
The proceeds from the tournament will be used to endow the Peter Abraham Cedars Surgical Oncology Fellowship Fund at the MUHC and will allow the Montreal General Hospital to invest in innovative projects which have the potential to change the way cancer is treated.
“By supporting the Peter Abraham Cedars Surgical Oncology Fellowship Fund, the Cedars Golf Classic allows the Cedars Cancer Centre to recruit an outstanding surgical oncologist every year,” explains MUHC surgical oncologist Dr. Roger Tabah. “This benefits the hospital, McGill University, and, above all, our patients.”
“For 45 years, the Cedars Golf Classic has brought together women and men who want to help us ensure that our hospitals remain at the forefront of oncology research, treatment and care,” says Dr. Armen Aprikian, Medical Director of the Cedars Cancer Centre and Chief of the MUHC Cancer Care Mission. “We are extremely appreciative of their support.”
“I am so grateful to our sponsors, donors and players for their generosity, especially to our major tournament sponsors: Simard Transport Ltd., The Rossy Foundation, Pipe & Piling Supplies Ltd., Pinacle Stainless Steel, and Aune Foundation,” says Jeff J. Shamie, President and CEO of the Cedars Cancer Foundation.
“I also wish to thank our event chairs, Kim Anderson, Mark Krakower, Andrew Carter, Demo Trifonopoulos, Paul Sawaya, and Dominic Costantini, who were instrumental in helping us plan the tournament. And, a heartfelt thank-you also goes out to our loyal team of volunteers, who come out year after year to give us a hand with the event.”
