Annual Appeal 2020

It’s been a year unlike most. This was a year filled with hope, and filled with heartache. We postponed our primary fundraisers due to the pandemic, and have increased our humanitarian aid both locally and abroad. Our heartache included the loss of cherished loved ones and community leaders. It included tens of thousands of Quebecers and millions worldwide being affected by this virus. But throughout, and forever forward, we will maintain a singular focus - since cancer has not and will not take a pause.

2020 Splash and Dash 19th Edition Virtual Step Challenge

During the weekend of October 23rd to October 25th, 300 race participants walked in honour of the heroes on Sarah’s Floor for the 19th edition of Splash & Dash. Participants ranged from families with young children, schools and corporations.

Joe Cheaib Legacy Fund

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joe Cheaib on September 7th, 2020 at the age of 52. Son of the Late Georges and Milia Cheaib and predeceased by his brother Raymond. Joe will be forever remembered by his wife Teresa Soda, and his precious children, Emilia and Peter. He will also be forever loved and remembered by his brothers, Khalil (Jihane), Jamil (Mirna), Elie (Guita) and Sam (Rima), his sisters, Linda (Saïd), Lucie (Joseph) and Jacqueline (Elie), his sister-in-law Faten, his numerous nephews and nieces as well as his extended family and dear friends.

Together we stand for cancer patients

We recently announced the launch of the Cedars Covid-19 Humanitarian Fund for Pediatric and Adult Cancer Patients and their families, aligned with the Wilfrid Howick Humanitarian Fund and administered through Cedars CanSupport throughout the MUHC. If you missed that message, through this fund, the Cedars Cancer Foundation at the McGill University Health Center (MUHC) will continue to provide assistance and resources for cancer patients, and their families, in financial need, in an effort to alleviate the negative impact of financial hardship, reducing the stress associated with life’s basic necessities such as shelter, groceries, utilities, and transportation costs. The fund allows Cedars to help those most in need. Donors to this fund offer a tangible outreach to our patients when they are at their most vulnerable. Thank you for supporting this important patient community.

It’s an innovation that should help researchers in Canada connect with the participants they need and accelerate their urgent, important work to lead us to a viable treatment or vaccine for this disease.

The world has changed, we are living in isolation within our city, and we are coming to grips with a new reality. At times like these, we need to expand our community, check in regularly with one another, and look at the beauty of life. Inspired by the upcoming Passover and Easter holidays, we wanted to reach out to our Cedars community with a message of hope and an important reminder.

Our Response to COVID-19

We are all in unchartered waters as we join together to stop the spread of COVID-19 and take steps to protect the health of our neighbours as well as ourselves. At the Cedars Cancer Foundation we are particularly concerned that people living with cancer and in active cancer treatment or have previously been treated for cancer, older patients, and people with other serious chronic medical conditions are at heightened risk during this outbreak.

“Renoir en Rose” a gourmet fundraiser!

On January 22nd, top Montreal chefs came together with over 20 partners, and 150 individuals to recreate Renoir en Rose, a unique intimate event at the Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile’s Renoir restaurant.

Tea, cake and music for cancer patients and their families

The cakes are baked by volunteer Linda Chernin Rosenblatt, all two dozen every week, the teacups are china and the music is live. For inpatients being treated for cancer at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Glen site and their families, Tea @ 2 on Thursday afternoons is more than tea. It is a diversion, a welcome distraction from the travails of illness.
